Information on the Bartlett Jackson Transfer Station Dump Store 11/9/2023
The Bartlett Jackson Transfer Station staff has expressed concerns regarding the misuse of the dump store over the past several years.  The concerns ranged from residents using the store to discard items to avoid paying the appropriate disposal fees to the disposal of items that pose a health concern.  During two separate periods of approximately one week each in the past six months the staff took inventory of the items removed and the labor needed for removal.

From July 29th to August 6th the inventory of items included printers, air conditioners, computer equipment, paint, hazardous household waste, expired food, mini refrigerator, 1 ton construction debris and 1 ton of municipal waste.  The cleanup required approximately 10 hours of labor.  Estimated total for this week = $400 plus labor
From September 29th to October 9th the inventory of items included construction debris, microwaves, stereo equipment, bags of expired food, 3 used toilets wrapped in blankets, air conditioners, furniture, mattresses, clothing containing animal waste (mice), 10 used toilet seats and printers.  The cleanup required approximately 11 hours of labor.  Estimated total for this week = $390 plus labor.

On Tuesday, October 17th the staff started cleaning items left in the dump store.  A box full of dishes was picked up and items tipped over.  The employee put the box down on the table to see what was in the box.  A glass container had tipped over and liquid leaked out of the box and onto the employee.  Upon reviewing the contents of the box, other glass containers were found containing urine.  The containers did not have lids and appeared to have been filled in the store.  This was the day the dump store was closed and has remained close.

A volunteer committee under the direction of Barbara Stelle and Mary Jo Anderson has been formed to come up with ideas on how the dump store should operate without costing the taxpayers money.  If interested, contact Barbara Stelle at barbarastelle@gmail.com or Mary Jo Anderson at 603-833-1060.  The committee has until December 1, 2023 to make any recommendations.
